Pimps, links, and MUSIC FOR YOU!

  • Gossip Girl is my new guilty pleasure. I just-. Well. *points to guilty* The first ep is re-airing this Sunday night on the CW channel, for those that get it. (It's like a SUPER NAUGHTY Sweet Valley High/Caitlin. But you know, not mind-numbingly written.)

  • I wrote Office Fic yesterday that is "funny!" and "hilarious!" and "so true to character it's like I'm reading an episode!" You can be the judge. :D [/shameless and shameful.]

  • I was tagged for a music meme by Beans with the letter L: Comment and I'll give you a letter. In your journal, list ten of your favorite songs that begin with that letter.

Um.. it's supposed to be 10 songs. I can't do it!! 22 songs here. DLs after the list.

  1. LDN - Lilly Allen Okay, I know she's been overplayed, but this song still makes me happy. Probably because I don't listen to the radio.
  2. Luchas Reyes - Regressa (I'm cheating here - that's their name) But the song is so Buenos Aires and fun. Accordion! Come on.
  3. Linus & Lucy - Vince Guiraldi Trio Does this song not make you so happy you could skip?!
  4. Lay Your Hands On Me - Peter Gabriel Again: the man can do no wrong in my eyes.
  5. Love Is A Losing Game - Amy Winehouse Any song by her is awesome. It puts me right back in that Burt Bacharach place.Of long cigarettes in holders, Audrey Hepburn clothes, and whiskey, neat.
  6. La Gota Fria - Carlos Vives Ooooh, how fun Carlos Vives can be. Salsa, shake your booty while mopping, and pretend that Fernando is whirling you on the dance floor. :D
  7. Let's Stay Together - Al Green Classic. Who doesn't love this song? (If you don't, I don't want to know, because I will think less of you, and we don't want that.)
  8. Like That - Black Eyed Peas with Cee Lo, Talib Kweli and Q-Tip Okay, there is NO FERGIE, which makes this a cool song, because they used to be a great hip hop group. This is smooth and jazzy, and I looove it
  9. Look of Love, The - Dusty Springfield This is from the Burt Bacharach score of the original Casino Royale, which is utterly 60s fantastic. And now I'm going to be shpeaking like Sean Connery for the durashion of the day. Shuper! I sho reccommend "Hey There, Missh Goodthighsh" from that shoundtrack. [ETA] This is playing weird online, but when you DL it, it sounds fine. Weird.
  10. Laura - Dave Brubeck and not for narcisisstic reasons. Come on, it's a classic for a reason. (My fave version is by Charlie Parker, and I can't find my CD...)
  11. Love of my Life - Eryka Badu and Common They did this when they were still together (they have a baby together) and this is such a sweet song, and I love the message of them being best friends who drifted apart, grew up, then came back together. <3
  12. Let Me Clear My Throat - Doug E Fresh and Biz Markie Okay, this just rocks. It reminds me of pep rallys at my school. I dare you to not bob along to this. Double dog dare!
  13. Lift Thine Eyes To The Mountains - Felix Mendelssohn, performed by the Atlanta Symphony Chorus I grew up on choral music, and while I'm not a Christian, old school hymns are astoundingly beautiful and uplifting. This is one of my favorites, and this chorus is one of the best in the world, no lie. The women singing will absolutely make your day filled with joy.
  14. Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, The - Genesis This is the original line up with Peter Gabriel, who can do no wrong in my eyes. Good mid-70s prog-rock
  15. Lotion - The Greenkeepers Hahaha. I've put this up before, but it bears repeating: this song is HILARIOUS. Um, if you have a dark sense of humor and enjoy Silence of the Lambs. Which I do.
  16. Lonely Shepherd, The - Kill Bill Soundtrack I love the pan flute. PAN FLUTE! It makes me want to stand on a craggy cliffside, staring off at the unseen obstacles I will face in order to become the best fighter China has ever seen. And then I will honor my people or die trying. Hahaha. But seriously. *Stands facing the wind, which whips my red sash, as a reed instrument echoes my pain
  17. Let Down (Radiohead cover) - Off The Beat Okay, yes, this is an Andy Bernard song to love as it's by UPenn's a capella group. And yet... It makes this incredibly sad song slightly less so.
  18. Los Laureles - Linda Rondtadt I want her to be my mommy. I love Linda so much, it's not even funny. Her voice gives me chills, and her Mariachi album makes me smile like almost nothing else.
  19. Loungin' (Who Do You Love?) - LL Cool J Ladies Love Cool James. I swear, I love that fat-lipped man. And this was a great video, anyone remember videos?
  20. Los Condenaditos - Los Fabulosos Cadillacs Another jazzy/salsa dance song. Picture a dark handsome stranger stubbing out a smoke, walking to you with purpose, and leading you to the floor. And then you miraculously have FABULOUS moves and you do that spinny thing and the stranger pops his hands under the hem of your skirt to make it fly up. Hee!
  21. Love Will Tear Us Apart - The Cure I like this version better than the original Joy Division, which is heresy, I know. And yet...
  22. Las Seis Cuerdes - Paco de Lucia This is one of the great Flamenco guitarists of all time. This is an old recording - late 50s - and if you're into good guitar music, anything by Paco de Lucia is a MUST. (As is Andres Segovia & Christopher Parkening)
  23. Learning To Fly - Pink Floyd Their best? Of course not. But mediocre Floyd is better than most stuff out there.

And how much do I love box.net? SO MUCH. I wish everyone would use it when sharing music. I mean, you get to HEAR IT before you commit to a dl! Nice. Lemme know what you think! (All songs together = 89MB)

Lift Thine Eyes To The Mountains - Felix Mendelssohn

Big fan of hymns myself. I was heavily involved in choir in college, and they were always my favorite to sing. :) And you can never go wrong with Mendelssohn.

I'm not a church goer, of any faith, but I love hymns like almost no other form of music. Mendelssohn and Gounod are two of my absolute faves. :)

I feel so much better that someone else watched Gossip Girl. I'm blaming the fever and my sickly state...but Penn Badgley was very easy on the eyes. Very.

Also, your The Office fic is brilliant! You nailed the Dwight vs. Jim dynamic.

Oh my goodness, there was a group of about four of us online last night expressing both our shame and pleasure for that show. YOU ARE NOT ALONE, hahaha. And serious: it's FUN. Smart? not really. Entertaining? As hell.

Awww, THANK YOU! I really appreciate your saying that.

Fabulosos Cadillacs! I heart them a bit too much.

I've stolen all those songs in the hope that they may help me to one day become even half as cool as you. :)

hahaha, WHAT EVER! Dude, I totally copy you, the QUEEN of cool! You're internationally cool!

(oh my goodness, what did you think of Luchas Reyes? Mr. S said it made him feel like he was right back in Buenos Aires. Natch I think of you. :*)

I heard an electro remix of Luchas Reyes at a bar not so long ago. It's a three minute tour of everything that's amazing about Buenos Aires.

Just wanted to comment and let you know that I read your Office fic and it is HI-larious, Stoney! :) Great job on keeping it true to character and true to the show - the whole Dwight dressing like a pirate totally sounds like an episode of the show, LOL! \o/ Now I've got an itch to read more Office fic. Got any recs? *puppy eyes* :)

Awww, thank you very much! I'm very pleased you thought it came across true to the show, that's what I was hoping to hear!

And I have LOADS of recs! Click on my "recs" tag for lists. *G*

Hahaha, Gossip Girl. Dude, I'm TOTALLY GUILTY right along with ya. I'll probably re-watch the premier next time it's on, since I didn't record it and kiddo interrupted about 90% of my viewing time. But oh yeah, I think it's gonna be loads of Bitchtastic Fun (tm)!

I'll have to check out some of the unfamilar tunes, especially the Linda Ronstat mariachi bit. I had no idea such a thing existed.

It's cracktastically fab, right?

Oooh, Linda Ronstadt's father was a mariachi musician, so it's the music of her childhood. Most of the music she's done since about the mid 80s has been mariachi or Latino music. Her voice is so beautiful. I hope you enjoy it!

For real? I totally did not know that! I thought she did country and....gospel? HEE! Needless to say, I'm not every educated in the ways of Linda.

Sep. 20th, 2007 04:34 pm (UTC)
She started off as a rock musician, melded into pop, and then did Latino music. She did one album with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris, but that's about it for her country career, I believe.

...um, I may have had a mother that sang in a Linda cover band. *G*

Let me state this outright: Gossip Girl is my new favorite teen soap and I love it. Helloooooo, guilty pleasure. Couple that with ANTM (OMG TRAINWRECK. And could Tyra Banks be more vain? I don't think so.) premiering last night and I am in guilty pleasure heaven.

Your icon is making me tingle in my no-no places
Maren and I enjoy the show to mock the girls. And Tyra is heeeeeeeelarious to watch as she attempts to solve various issues like childhood abuse, rape, poverty, homelessness, by TAKING PRETTY PICTURES. Seriously, in the "interview" segment last night, Tyra browbeat one girl into talking about how she was shuffled from family member to family member, was raped and molested different times, was homeless, etc. Once the girl started crying Tyra was all, "See? *I* will HELP YOU SURVIVE." Hahahaha, oh Tyra. You are so not Oprah.

Gossip Girl = LOVE. Drunk teens! Trust funds! Non-attentive parents! Secrets! Cheating! Beautiful people! Gorgeous clothes! What's not to love?

I am anti-Reality shows. HOWEVER, I've caved to my unholy love for ANTM, for Lee is correct in describing Miss Tyra and her amazing SURVIVAL mojo. She's like Donna Summer only she can't sing (that doesn't stop her from dressing up in can-can and trying though- seriously, on a cruise ship). Also, Mr. and Miss Jay.

Re: Your icon is making me tingle in my no-no places
Oh yes! And we had the usual bevy of young hopefuls who were convinced with a righteous fury that because "I've been through so much" they "deserve" to be America's Next Top Model.

Dudes. If that was the criteria, then ANTM would be a different show and Jerry Springer would be snapping the shots.

HI HI!! The Greenskeepers are a bunch of goofballs that turned SIlence of the Lambs into a MUSICAL. So. Obviously I love them. :D

I'm currently listening to some awesome mod stuff from Italy, 1960s. So James Bond, it's terrific. I'm converting files for uploading tomorrow. :*

Ooooh, shiny box.net ! *pets*

What a fabulous list. I'm so psyched that you did this! The Brubeck, the Linda Rondstadt, the Mendelssohn, and the Dusty Springfield are especially awesome. My hands are so grabby they're claw-like. :P

There are bunches here that I don't have, so I blame you entirely for my newly bouncy mood. Thank you, stoney!

I remember videos! *raises hand* Hee, "Look out, here comes the Man O' Steel." Go, LL. \o/

Oh my goodness, I want to lick/nibble on LL's liips, UNGH. (Hee!)

You've got me convinced. I'll use it next time I share tunage. :D

It totally changes your mood. Even when i was an emo teen, I knew I could get bouncy with some jazzy riffs, or weepy with some ballady hair bands. Course, that's still true... just with different music. *facepalm*

Hee! LL has it all goin' on. I saw the VH1 thingy about his life a few months ago and man, he's good people. :)

Remember, back in the day, before the Peas met Fergie, how unflipping believably awesome they were? Yeah *sad sigh* me too. Good times. *DL's* *goes to dig up first two BEP cds* *digs further, finds dusty boombox*

And I missed an opp. for The Roots! THE LAST MOVEMENT. I will upload manana.

Hello film star. Is Gossip Girl from the books? Excellent. I read the first 3, because I wanted to write one myself (har-di-har), but I thought it was being made into a film, not TV. It's total TV material, hope I can get it somehow, I'm such a teenager...

Hahahaha, OMG, I am such a film star with my indie film cred. *G*

And yes, it's from the books! I've heard that people don't like the casting choice for "Jen" but I thought she was perfect for that part, but then, I've not read the books. (It's pretty awesome, I have to say.)

And who's to say you can't write something like that? Are they by various authors? That's pretty cool!

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
