So, a funny thing happened on the way to the forum vet. I chose to get Sally Von Schtupp's heartworm preventative from the SPCA instead of our vet, because it is tres cheap there. *cough* It is impossible for me to go to a shelter and not want to bring home all the babies. For the record, I did not adopt all the babies.

This lovely young man did come home with me. His previous owners had him, another cat, a dog, and kids, and moved. And left him at the shelter. :( BUT YAY FOR US. He's four, lovely, super affectionate, and came with the name "Bootsie." We are attempting to jazz that up as "Master Bootsie "McLovin" Collins of the Funkadelic." That is what his official papers read. HEEEE. (Which is only slightly longer than my sister's grey tabby, who is officially named Greg the Subsititue Philosphy Teacher.)

Here is Bootsie McAWESOME chilling out in our bathtub. It's very cool and hidey in there.

Ms. Hope (full name: Hope comma A New colon Episode Four) ventured in this morning to check out the "new cat smell." Actually, she came in because she smelled his food. He came up behind her and checked out her hinter smells, and she looked back at him and went back to sniffing his food, then did an IMMEDIATE DOUBLE TAKE and jumped back. Ahahaha. They are still nervously checking each other out, but no hissing or such.

(It should be noted that Hope is our resident Ambassador to our sovereign nation of Eh-Stoney-a. She greets all newcomers, passes out pamphlets for the touristy site-seeing trips, and offers coupons for reduced travel rates. She also handles all treaties and disputes through mreowing and biscuit making. It's a one-two punch of solution, that's what.)

"Why, hello. I see you noticing my feathery toes and tail and belleh. Yes, yes, I am used to the oohing and ahhing. I am beautiful, but I do not let it go to my head. You may caress."

I've decided that instead of an R&B voice (what I imagined his kitty voice to sound like) he has a Pepe LePew voice. "Ze sauerkraut does not run from ze corn beef! I am ze snake, and you have charmed me..."

Sally is DYING to go lick his head, but Bootsie is not to keen for that just yet. Oh, Sally. They can't all be your babies. (She's been bringing her duck-baby all over this morning as if to say, "Why, I have other species as children, there is no reason why I cannot have you, too! Just...one...leeek!"

New behaviors observed as of this typing: he is a SUCKER for head scritches. To the point of almost doing a forward somersault to get your hands where he wants them. Ahahaha. As soon as you get a good scritch going, he immediately flops onto his side and begins purring. And then come the biscuits. He has ENORMOUS paws, so i think he's making baguettes, not biscuits. <3 <3 <3

Awwwwwwww! He's so handsome! I want to pet his fluffiness!

(This is why it's a good thing I stopped working at a no-kill shelter, though. There's a reason I ended up with so many pets. *cough*)

HE IS SO FLUFFLY, T. I lerve him.

Our local SPCA is a no-kill, too. The Mr. has to physically restrain me sometimes from bringing them all home. They just want lovings!! <3

YAY for rescuing pets! There are people here who think we need another cat: these people do not include me, the existing cat, or the larger dog.

The vote is ten to ten on a foot count, and so far that's enough.

Julia, small house, too much stuff, too many feet is my party's platform.

Hahahahaha. My Mr. belongs to your party it seems. (But then someone climbed into his lap and made biscuits and purred and won him over to our affiliation.) HEE.

Very nice. He reminds me of the army cat we had when I was kid. We were living in Germany at the time. And this cat (Spooky) had been passed around from one army household to another as they'd pack up to head back to the States. We had him two years then kindly passed him on. He was awesome.

Master Bootsie "McLovin" Collins of the Funkadelic is a lovely cat, indeed! He's gorgeous, especially in that last picture. I just want to rub that belleh.

So, do you think if I stood in the window at the SPCA and looked all cute and shit, you'd adopt me? I can be quite fetching, I'll have you know, and word on the street is that I have a few tricks that will blow your mind.

WATCH as she sits in front of the computer!
MARVEL at the laundry that continues to pile up!
WONDER at how she manages to trip without even moving!

How am I still single? I DON'T KNOW, EITHER. Ahahaha.

And Bootsie LOVES his belleh to be rubbed, which is different from Darthanne and Hope, so YAY.

I love his name!!! You name your kitties awesome things.

My boy's official name is Gord, but in my head he's SuperGord! of the Not-So-Tragically Hip. Because he gets his name from Gordon Downie of - you guessed it - The Tragically Hip.

Also, Hope is gorgeous and clearly intrigued, and Sally sounds like a wonderful little creature. Bootsie's gonna have a very cool life with you.

SUPERGORD! I am quite fond of that - and I'm pronouncing it, "SUP-er-GOOOOORD!"

We hope Bootsie is happy with us - all the animals are quite intrigued by him and are waiting for him to come out and join the party. :D

Yay to you for rescuing this worthy Master Bootsie "McLovin" Collins of the Funkadelic. you BOTH deserve head scritches.

He is not tempted by the Mr.s toes, except to rub his face on them, eliciting a high pitched giggle. I mean, a very manly giggle. *G*

I just stepped out of the shower and he sat on the mat waiting for me. "Zis water shambair - she ees not your new lahv, for it eez I! Mastair Bootsie! Now. Love upon me."

Gorgeous new kitty-boy! My husband has to restrain me whenever I see the adoptable kitties at the PetSmart - they work with local shelters for adopt-a-kitty days, and it's SO HARD not to walk away with a new kitty. Alas, the constraints of apartment living, a lease that only allows two cats, and a DamnCat of Doom (in the icon) who may kill us all in our sleep for brining in a newcomer keeps the feline family from growing.

*skitches to Bootsie, the Bootster, the Bootsmeister, EL BOOTSITO!*

What a beauty. Yes, we have 6 cats now, and they are all rescue cats. Well, technically the boys aren't rescue cats since they were born in our house, but we did rescue their mama. I totally relate to the "wanting to take all the kitties home", but heavens, we don't need any more! In fact, we are still trying to find a home for Miss Katie, a beautiful but neurotic calico who really needs to be an only cat, and Miss Fancy Mama Cat, who we found eating crickets in the driveway at Patty's store (and subsequently who gave birth to Abner and Elroy, Babe and Dixie...we still have A&E, adopted out B&D). We would like to get down to Bonnie the Bionic (we rescued her from the parking lot at Patty's old store, squished by a renegade SUV...$3000 and 2 weeks later we brought her home, now she is 5 and the queen of our house), and Muffins aka Ani aka Mittens (who was just on the driveway one morning, crying her little 3 week old heart out). The boys actually belong to our friend Mark, if he ever decides to move into his own place. We have 2 people, 2 dogs (one of whom is 140 lbs!!), 6 cats and a fish tank in a 3 bedroom 3 bath house. Of course, there is always room for one more, as Patty likes to tell me. And your new addition looks just like one we would wind up bringing home, he is gorgeous! Hope he comes out of his tub shell soon. Oh, and Hope is beautiful as well, good for her with the no hissing. We have had Fancy since last October and she STILL spits and spats at all the other cats (including her sons) every time she sees them.
stoney321
Jul. 2nd, 2008 04:48 pm (UTC)
We had five cats at one point, and the Mr. is clearly not wanting to go back to the days of crazy bulk food purchasing any more. :D

Oh, Bonnie!!! How wonderful to have you two find her and give her a chance. Poor little kitnit (except not anymore, as she is now royalty!)

And Bootsie was just checking out the tub - he's been all over. He is the proverbial curious cat. (It's a marble tub, so it's very cool and pleasant, is my guess.)

Have you tried Craig's List for help in adopting out your extra cats? If I hear of anyone in your neck of the woods, I'll send you a line and see what's still available. (That is, if you really do want to find them other homes. I know I've said that before, then ended up keeping them all. Hahaha.)

Awwww -- what a beauty! And such a great name as well.

My Kiera was also a rescue kitty, abandoned the same way -- left behind when the people moved. She's still a little freaky about her food (it makes me wonder if she was starved before she was found.) But she's warm and interactive and lovely and I just don't get people who wouldn't love her enough to take her with them. It's taken a few years, but she continues to grow more comfortable with me. I figure in a few more years she might start crawling into my lap on a regular basis, instead of once or twice a year, to get scritches. I'm so glad that your new addition is settling in so well!

Jul. 2nd, 2008 05:11 pm (UTC)
Aww, poor little Kiera, but how wonderful to have found you!! Our Hope is still terrified of being picked up, or petted while walking. (She was nabbed by her owner and stuffed in a bag. :(( SHe still has fear issues.)

It makes me SO HAPPY to hear of others that take in fur babies. <3 <3

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
