Looking for a silver lining

So today started off rotten and I'm trying to find some inner zen. I have some go-to songs that I listen to which led me to thinking of making out in high school. What? It's a process. And I thought to myself, why don't I make a high school make out mix? And then I thought to myself, why don't I upload that and encourage my flist to make their own make out lists? And then I thought, and why not make a meme out of it? Can't we all use some imagination and toe curling and all that? The short answer: heck yeah! So this is the High School Make Out Music Mix Meme!

While I try and breathe deep and get this rassle-frassle book finished, and quit opening emails from rude people that insist on sending me pictures of spiders, and get around to banning trolls that think I'm the most horrible person ever for not realizing that Bella and Edward are the most romantic people EVAR (haha, that one made me laugh, actually, because the person was clearly unhinged) ...while all that is going on in the background, have some music on me. (If you don't want to state when you graduated, that's cool. Just be sure to pick songs that you would have listened to while in high school.)

Rules and my list are under the cut.

I really like saying it: High School Make Out Music Mix Meme:

Rules:
1. Has to be songs that were available to listen to while you were in high school, or the summer after graduation. (essentially 9th - 12th grade)
2. Has to be songs that either you DID make out to, or you WISHED you did - songs you thought would seal the deal, so to speak. *G*
re-read #2: you DID or you WANTED to.
3. Regardless of the ridiculousness (was the theme song to Pee Wee's Big Adventure what got you going?) share the song - that's half the fun!
4. Zip up songs and/or share link (via box.net, mediafire, megaupload, sendspace, yousendit...) and list the songs in your comment/post.
The point is to share music
5. If you post this to your own journal and not in comments, put a link to your list in comments here
6. Spread the word! Come on and play!

Stoney, Class of 1990 ....virgin. Ahahaha. (In alphabetic order)

1. Berlin - Sex (I'm A...) [Obvious, what?]
2. Bill Withers - Use Me
3. Billy Paul - Me and Mrs. Jones
4. Boyz II Men - Uhh Ahh (ahahaha. Oh my god, I thought this was sew naughty! "Injection, fellas." "I caress your body emotionally..." HEE.)
5. Depeche Mode - A Question Of Lust (Dave Gahan wants 15 year olds. Pedo-bear alert!)
6. Depeche Mode - Enjoy the Silence
7. Depeche Mode - I Want you Know (sex mix - the weird one) [Jeebus, the whole catalog of their music should just be here. Esp. Stripped, which I don't seem to have...]
8. Duran Duran - The Chauffeur
9. Edie Brickell - Air of December
10. Led Zeppelin - I'm Gonna Crawl (really, Led Zep IV, side B - panty dropping.)
11. Level 42 - It's Over (I wasn't the smartest. But the song is pretty and slow)
12. Love and Rockets - So Alive (mmmmm)
13. Myers - Cavatina From The Deer Hunter (also beautiful and slow - very Zeffirelli)
14. New Order - Elegia (aww. I remember having Docs and a shaved head and wanting to make out with a boy that turned out to be gay. Of course.)
15. Peter Gabriel - I Have The Touch (damn. Still love this one.)
16. Peter Gabriel - In Your Eyes (you can't be my age and not have this one on your mix. Lloyd Dobbler!)
17. Pink Floyd - A Pillow of Winds (try to not fall asleep while making out. Whoops! <-- true story, but it was 2 in the morning!)
18. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Blood Sugar Sex Magic (ung, my last high school boyfriend always played RHCP. He was so dreamy and hot.)
19. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Pretty Little Ditty
20. Roxy Music - Love Is The Drug
21. Stevie Wonder - My Cherie Amour
22. Sting - Sister Moon (that whole album is great)
23. The Cure - A Night Like This
24. The Cure - Fascination Street (okay, really. Every single Cure album qualifies for me.)
25. The Smiths - Golden Lights (ditto)
26. The Smiths - Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want
27. Thelonious Monk - Round Midnight (I need his version of "Laura" to round this out. Hmm.)

I was just thinking of "Me and Mrs. Jones!" I'm such a luddite, I have no clue how to do this kind of thing, but I just had to thank you for zipping a song that's been stuck in my head for several days. Our amplifier is on back order, so I haven't been able to listen to an LP for weeks (woe!!).

Isn't that a great, sexy song? I love it, too.

Do you not know how to zip up files, or is it the uploading portion? It's pretty simple, I can walk you through it.

I like this meme, but I don't think most of the songs I liked would be available to me. I lived in Brussels and listened to more local radio than anything else.

The funniest one I can think of, is "The Martyr" by Modern Jazz Quartet. The music is gorgeous, but the association of martyrdom with making out is funny.

Hahaha, isn't it funny to think back on songs that you thought were so sexy and listen to them now?

The entire Bowie "Heroes" album. The instrumentals "Sense of Doubt" and "Neukoln" especially.

U2, "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For." Oh hell, all of Joshua Tree.

Oddly, "music" and "high school makeout" were not very connected for me. I played the music when I was *alone.* I wasn't allowed to have boys in my bedroom, where the stereo was, and not all my boyfriends had cars, and the ones who did, those cars were old and had nothing but the radio...

Music is more connected to the jukebox at Pizzeria Regina, and the too public to make out school dances, and things like that.

MOVIES, now...

HEROES! I forgot about that - I remember sitting in my Honda with that playing and kissing my first boyfriend in the parking lot of the elementary school down the road. <3

(But note that the meme includes songs that you WISH you made out to as well.)

::snork::
Harmonyfb, Class of 1981

Note: We really weren't sophisticated enough to put on intentional make-out music. We made out to whatever the hell was on the radio.

Note Also: I only have about two of these songs as mp3s because most of them suck.

Random songs I remember making out to(in ascending order):

1978:
"Year of the Cat", Al Stewart,
"Piano Man", Billy Joel,
"Rhiannon", Fleetwood Mac
"Deacon Blues", Steely Dan

1979:
"If You Want My Body", Rod Stewart
"Sultans of Swing", Dire Straits
"Got to Be Real", Cheryl Lynn

1980:
"Cars", Gary Neumann
"Babe", Styx
"Sailing", Christopher Cross

1981:
"Lady", Kenny Rogers
"Rapture", Blondie
"Ain't Even Done with the Night", John Cougar

Re: ::snork::
...I kind of LIKE "Year of the Cat." And "Sultans of Swing" is a classic.

Otherwise, my class-of-1987 sensibilities are moderately horrified.

I don't think I'll be much of a contribution to this meme... When I was in high school, my boyfriend and I made out with the first series of The Mighty Boosh playing in the background. D: So I guess I should share some music from that?

ETA: I tried to embed the links, but it didn't work. So here they are just in a list.

Since I'm searching like a mad thing for a bunch of very old moldies I thought I'd lead with the Shock Value Song:

Lostakasha, St. Clare High cl;ass of 1974.

I am possibly the only person who will admit losing her virginity in 1973 to Harry Chapin -- Taxi.

This may be entirely too depressing to continue.

Let's face it: nobody wants that song, and if anyone does, it's proof of profound freakiness -- and not in a good way. What can I say? It was long enough.

Oh gawd. The only song that just immediately springs to mind is Elvira - The Oak Ridge Boys. It's totally not a song you make out to, but my first boyfriend was like in love with that song and played it all the time when were riding around in his truck. LOL. Idk. I graduated last Spring. I could pull a little mix together, maybe, but most of it won't be this fun 80s & 90s stuff yall are talking about..

Hey! You did have The Cure and The Smiths on this! Good taste!

Yes about 'In Your Eyes, You Might Want a Dishrag and An Antibiotic' and also about Depeche Mode because nargh, that voice!

Though it makes me sad that there's no Bowie so I'm going to scribble mean things on my pencil case and kick the chair in front of me and I stare out at the playing field in boredom.

Too lazy to upload, but...

I Think We're Alone Now by Tommy James and the Shondells

Build Me Up, Buttercup by The Foundations

I swear those songs were on endless repeat during HS.

Oh, also

Go All the Way by The Raspberries

Don't forget this was early 70's and none of us owned cars - I grew up in NYC. None of us even had driver's licenses.

Navel to Neck is the best make-out song ever!!!111!!!
It makes me think of Blake Edmond whispering in my ear that he wanted to kiss me. I swear his voice sounded exactly like Adam Ant.

Putting YouTube links, since I lack mp3s for many of these songs.

darlas_mom, Class of 2002, listed in the order in which I remembered them:

1. Live, "All Over You" (Trufax, lost my virginity to this song in 1999--even wrote about it here.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXF7lFZxKQo
2. The Cardigans, "Lovefool" (Kissed my first boyfriend to this at my fourteenth birthday party.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddT2QmVnJiQ
3. Human Drama, "This Tangled Web" (Danced and kissed to this with my boyfriend when I was seventeen...after I DLed the song because it was the title of a Willow/Cordy fic I liked. ;-)) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arSSDGpS5BA
4. Human Drama, "Love Will Tear Us Apart" (Same incident as above. There was actually a whole series of Willow/Cordy fics with Human Drama songs for titles. I really liked the series and really liked the soundtrack.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UIbZEQZmPA
5. Veritcal Horizon, "Miracle" (Kissed a guy who never called me back to this song when I was sixteen.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgECjYDKBRs
6. Marcy Playground, "Sex and Candy" (Went to second base for the first time to this song.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YDAXltfj8-Y
7. Savage Garden, "Truly Madly Deeply" (Danced with this to a boy at a Mormon Church dance at my friend's stake/ward. Wanted DESPERATELY to kiss him, but didn't.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-Z1Rfd5Tds
8. Sheryl Crow, "I Shall Believe" (Made out with my boyfriend when I was seventeen to this song, the day before he was shipped off to Virginia with the military.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW3Y3BtKqPs
9. Jewel, "Foolish Games" (Made out with my first boyfriend to this at an honest-to-God Jewel concert, live in Seaport Village in 1999. I am THAT lame!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vIATAqtg0Q
10. Sarah McLachlan, "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" (Listened to this a lot between boyfriends when I was sixteen, thinking it was the perfect soundtrack for sex I wasn't having.) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2O-LaSiCKB8

I'm old.
Anything by the Carpenters

Neil Diamond

Bread

...we also had the Jackson Five in those days, things were so different, and the Osmonds too.

Elton John.

Joy to the World (3 Dog Night) I loved that one.

***Groans*** ...I listen to new music now, not keep listening to the music from that time, like some people I know, not naming any names.

the only music I can actually remember making out to was some Led Zeppelin, I believe that's what it was. Some kind of blues anyway.

I would love to participate, but I don't own very much 80s music on CD right now (tragic, I know.)

I will wholeheartedly agree with your statement about Depeche Mode's catalog. "Lie to Me", in particular, would be high on my list. Sadly, I don't have that one(but I do have "Stripped", which I could send to you or upload, however this thing works.)

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
