First, I had a fabulous trip with dovil, who is still traveling the wilds of the US and Canada. I'll have a detailed post tomorrow with pictures.

Second, GAME OF THRONES, WHO IS IN? IMPORTANT! I have not read the books. I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOKS. That means that if you spoil me for ANYTHING, I will be very very angry about it. Be a dude, not a dick. Also, I'm sure someone is having the "but in the book they blah blah." You have to let that go. You have to. Movies are never going to be the same as the books, guys, it's impossible. Really. Airplanes are not submarines, but they both provide transportation, you feel me?

I'm recapping GoT over at Hey, Don't Judge Me as if it's the most awesome Dungeons and Dragons campaign ever, so there's that fun. Catch my recap of last night's episode here. And the President of GeekGirlCon.com has a great rebuttal (short and sweet) to the controversy about the NYT article regarding GoT here.

Also, Kassie is recapping Robin Year 1 & 2 for my comic book buds, and just started rewatching/talking about Smallville over there, too, so you have loads of reading material, my friends.

I am SO GLAD TO BE HOME. Also, I have all of the horses for Stallioncrest. OH. MY. GOD. This is going to be epic I tell you. EPIC HORSE SOAP OPERA, you heard it here first, lol.

So I happily clicked on the link you provided to Kassie's LJ because hey, joy, someone else is watching SV, and with my beloved show coming to an end after a whole decade on the air, it's always fun... skrreeeech. Ouch. Um, yeah. Not so much fun. :-(

Welcome home — glad you had fun on your trip!

Aww, I'm sorry! She's got opinions and she isn't afraid to show them. I'll add an ETA for others so I don't give them a sad, too. :(
Apr. 18th, 2011 11:42 pm (UTC)
Wait, I didn't link to her LJ, I linked to the post on HDJM. That's the only thing I'm taking responsibility for, and the review I linked to was POSITIVE. Just putting that out there.

BUT DID I PUT YOUR GOLDFISH IN THE BACONATOR? That's the part of the story I need to know. Also, LOL.

I know nothing of the books, so it may get too bleak, IDK, but I really enjoyed this show, man. I'm having fun recapping them, WHEE! Dude: they fuck their sisters and shove boys out of windows WHILE THE PUPPY LOOKS ON. It's like it was made for Liz. Hahahaha.

WELCOME HOME STONEY! I can't wait to see your pics and hear all about your trip. And I am still sadface that I didn't get to meet Dovil. :(

STALLIONCREST! Weeeeeeeeeepbbbbblllllllllt!

WE HAD SO MUCH FUN! I have a lot of pics, but some of the hikes we only took her camera (I needed both hands on deck to hold up my fellow hiker in places.)

Apr. 19th, 2011 12:12 am (UTC)
I read this as "I needed both hands on deck to hold up my fellow hiker in HER places" and laughed like an idiot. Then realized I am one.

I am SO in for Game of Thrones. I hope it's better than that Camelot crap, because that was a trainwreck.

I am saving all my capslocks for stallioncrest. Oh lordy, yes I am.
Apr. 19th, 2011 12:07 am (UTC)
I am LOVING Game of Thrones. LOVING it. I can't speak about Camelot, for I did not watch, seems like that was a good thing.

As someone who plays D&D, I found your GoT review to be amazing. Since I haven't read the books I have no idea what the show is about besides sister-fucking and possibly little boy killing. Honestly that is enough for me, I did watch an entire season of Jersey Shore after all.
Apr. 19th, 2011 12:54 am (UTC)
I am SO GLAD you got that I was having fun. I'm currently in a moral quandry where I am afraid fellow geeks/fantasy nerds like me won't get that I'm being silly, not degrading.

And you get bonus points for watching Jersey Shore in my book!
Apr. 19th, 2011 12:51 am (UTC)
I'm in the middle of reading. (740 pages and counting. I had had the goal of finishing before the series started and didn't quite make it, but I'm close).

And, honestly, there wasn't much that was different.
Apr. 19th, 2011 12:55 am (UTC)
I heard that the show will do one book per season, so hearing that it's that thick, I'm even more impressed that you find them to be close! (I totally want to read, but I'll be reading the books AFTER the seasons end, I'm such a dork about spoilers.)
Apr. 19th, 2011 01:38 am (UTC)
Book 1 is over 800 pages... plus, (unsurprisingly) an appendix for the family trees and 'House' histories! (I'm guessing one of the later books simply has to have a map, this thing needs maps.)

What's different between the episode and the first 100 pages is minor and mostly just in staging.

Tyrion with the bedfull of whores is accurate enough for the character in general and probably there to give the chracter a bigger entrance. So no real quibble with that. Hard to begrudge a great character a better entrance.

And Dany's deflowering was pretty much the same only it came off as somewhat more consensual in the books (but still terrifying).

The books are interesting in that they have multiple POV's (different chapaters are the from the POV of different characters), so in the book we got the kid's view of discovering twincest in the towers (poor thing thought they were wrestling. The reader... um... did not. :)

Other POV characters (I have no idea of the order) are Ned (aka Boromir), Jon (Ned's bastard), Catelyn (Ned's wife), Arya (Ned's tomboy daughter), Sansa (Ned's 'pretty' daughter), Tyrion (the imp), and Dany (silver-hair) so we were allowed glimpses in several of their heads.

You're recapping Game of Thrones?! Awesome. I watched last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm heading over to read it now.

Stallioncrest! I can't wait! I'm sure the pictures will be fabulous.

Welcome back! I'm glad the government shutdown was averted so you could enjoy the national parks. And you know, so people weren't out of work. :-P
Apr. 19th, 2011 01:14 am (UTC)
OMG, I love that show. What a delight for me to have it every week, WHEE!

You have NO IDEA how grateful I am that the shutdown was avoided for that week. Not just for me, but for all of my flisters/RL buds that depend on a working gov't. YEESH. But yeah. Closed gate at the Grand Canyon? Noooooooo! ;)

Heeeeey! Am in Salt Lake sitting in front of Hotel's lobby computer while people try and stare over my shoulder, YAY! MISS YOU! Had the best time ever and thank you so much again for making it so much fun. Kiss, kiss, ME!

Have a GREAT time, and feel free to tell me all about the crazy polygamous family that kidnaps you in the next few minutes. WATCH OUT FOR THEM. :D

Apr. 19th, 2011 03:09 am (UTC)
Oh dude! When I get back I will totally email you. Texas is awesome, am I right? :D

I am watching Game of Thrones! And am super excited after the first episode - it looks SO AWESOME. I have read the books, and will try to be careful. But it has been long enough that I'm not much inclined to "in the books they said blah blah blah and they left that out, OH NOES!" I usually try to treat television/movies and books as seperate-but-wonderful things.

Apr. 19th, 2011 01:06 pm (UTC)
I know that's a knee jerk reaction for most, it was for me, too. "But in the book she says, blah blah" etc. Books are so personal! But it's just impossible to take the material and change the delivery format into anything exactly as the reader had imagined. Not to mention the books are 800 pages long and an episode is 1 hour.

It just saves people heart break when they can figure that out, and it seems like we're like-minded here!

Had no idea you weren't putting two and two together, it's fixed and I'll screen this comment. Apologies for outing you, if so!

I cannot express in words how much I'm looking forward to Stallioncrest!

so glad you're back. I totes missed ya and stuffeses.

Also, OMGHOWILOVEDGAMEOFTHRONES! and I wasn't even a Fantasy nerd, but I'm totally dating one and the mother of one so I am getting it now. And wow. This show is gonna be all kinds of awesome. Big men, blondes, imps, and beheadings all around! Not to mention the creepy zombie-like predators. I think maybe these were the first zombies...ever.
Apr. 19th, 2011 07:16 pm (UTC)
BACK AT YOU!!! Man, I've been a fantasy fan since I was teeny, it's my favorite. But this series came out when I had three babies and reading was laughable at that point. :D BUT NOW....

Apr. 19th, 2011 05:16 pm (UTC)
"...where we see Queen Cersei Lannister and her brother Jaimie doing the Dothraki." ROFLMAO! Very nice!

I'm glad you are watching and reviewing - I've loved the Song of Ice and Fire for a long time, and you make me larf with your funny! I was hoping you'd do this. I assumed as much, because you seem to like the HBO shows, but I didn't know if you were a fan of the story. :)
Apr. 19th, 2011 07:17 pm (UTC)
HEEEEE, glad that joke hit for you!

I will TOTALLY be reading the series. When this season is done, I'll do book 1 because I don't want to be spoiled, I'm all goofy like that. :D

I'm happy to know you'll be reading, too, thanks!
Apr. 19th, 2011 07:33 pm (UTC)
You haven't read the books? You're going to loooove them! If you can manage not to read the second when you're done with the first, you'll be the strongest woman EVER. But...it was picked up for the second season today, so you'll probably want to wait. Eeeei!
Apr. 19th, 2011 05:47 pm (UTC)
Sounds like you had a great time. (as if you wouldn't).

As soon as I watch GoT I'll be reading your review. I too have not read the books, so I'm glad you are also spoiler free.
Apr. 19th, 2011 07:18 pm (UTC)
The only spoilers will be that within the episode I'm recapping, natch. I don't like to be ruined for stories, we're like minded!
Apr. 22nd, 2011 06:14 am (UTC)
I'm glad you're watching Game of Thrones!

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
