Good Morning, Star shine!

I'm forcing cheer this morning because my husband has resumed snoring. Breathe right strips, propping, double-footed kick to the kidneys, nothing's working. He's on notice that another night of Exxxtreme Snoring! will result in him sleeping with the dog in the laundry room. I also had to change my LJ's style to get my links back (weird - it stopped showing the hypertext. Buh?) and it's taking me a bit to get used to the new set up.

But happy things, because I don't wanna be grumpy. I read today that happiness, like herpes, is catching! And like herpes, it takes two. (Or, also like herpes, more.) Allow me to spread some happiness (my version of it) your way.

  • This video of a furry woman who believes herself to be a cheetah, and explaining why she doesn't WANT to be a cheetah anymore. (Courtesy of my sister, and it IS work safe. Just not sanity safe.) I especially like how she covers up her stumbling over the word "home" with "phone." And the very focused panting into the camera. Ahahahaha! RICE. No wonder she's upset, cheetahs don't eat rice! (Nice sex hole in the costume, too. No, that's not disturbing AT ALL.)

  • This recipe for cream of chile poblano soup, something I ate while in Austin last Thursday night. (Minus the chicken.) I would like a bowl of this smoky, spicy, deliciousness every week, k-thanks. The recipe is slightly different than the one I had, as mine was topped with just a few pieces of queso fresco, a better (and more authentico) topping. Este comida es muy delicioso!

  • I can't share it with you, but you can go to Williams-Sonoma and get some yourself: gingerbread spice bundt cake, topped with an orange-ginger glaze. I under cooked the cake by two minutes, and it was the better for it. Moist, delicious, and the topping was all the goodness of an orange roll glaze, but with a touch of ginger. I LOVE FOOD.

  • Tackorama, a website with free fonts, clip art, etc. from the 50s. I picked up some great fonts (and made my icon.)

  • The Mr. doesn't know it, but I got him a Grind-n-Brew coffee maker for Giftmas this year, and I got it at Linens-n-Things for 70 % off. NICE.

  • And because I can't help it, I'm a total lover of Legos, always have been, always will be, check out this ship this father-son team created: a terra-forming ship. My son was salivating over it (and pointed out all the different kits they used, like Cylons from BSG kits and R2 heads for interior com-port stations. Hee!)

  • It would be super if the Mr. got me these posters in the huge size for Giftmas (esp. Neptune and Venus. PURDY!) I freaking LOVE THEM. I don't care, I'm a science nerd, always have been, always will be. That's why Michael Whelan and Zdzislaw Beksinski are two of my favorite artists of all time. NERD ALERT. Zdzislaw's website might be the coolest website on the web, too. I could sit and watch that for hours. The music is great, also. MAN, I'm just geeking all over the place today...

Today I get to prove my h4rdc0r3 n3rd sk1lz and rebuild a laptop for my bro-in-law for his Giftmas present. I've got a terrific motherboard, processor, good memory, I just need a HD, a DVD burner, and some bootlegged software. I plan on making his desktop image me, but with a glowing and rotating crown. Ha ha ha. I think I might slip in some 2001: A Space Odyssey wavs to automatically play when he tries to shut down the PC, etc. "What are you doing, Dave?" "This conversation can serve no further purpose. Goodbye." *blue screen of death* :D

[ETA] I missed that it was liz_marcs birthday! Happiest of days to you, even though you share this day with a sorrow-filled historical moment. I still think of that fabulous article you wrote about it a few years back... Many happy returns, Liz!

Isn't it great?! Glad to be of service!

Oooh, i've loved Micheal Whelan ever since his amazing covers for the Elric of Melnibone stories.

Thanks for all the links! I'm happy now too!

I think the covers for The Snow Queen and The Summer Queen (Joan D. Vinge) are two of my most favorite pictures of anything out there. I love love love his work.

YAY! See? It's infectious. :)

icon is funny *saves link*

Ummm...I saw that new Minimalist layout. I like it except (and I'm only being honest because I love)...it's hard to read yours. The links blend in a bit too much and the main body font color needs a bit more contrast. Or you can leave it alone.

Snoring - have you tried that mouth tray thing? I've seen it on TV. Alternately, he might have sleep apnea. Either way, snoring = no sleep for you and = BAD (I know, DT snores with her entire body without her machine).

Rebuilding laptops? Is there no end to your talent? Seriously, the rest of us are just going to give up and let you rule the world.

HEE. I want that as a shirt. I need to remember to buy myself a white T so I can make an iron on. :D

Eh - (re: minimalist) since my regular text is white, the links show up as dark, so I can see the difference, which is my main goal. Later I'll most likely go in and change the hyperlink text to black (or a v v dark teal) I miss my old boxer layout - but I can't figure out what's going on with the links with that one!

But I'm guessing most people are like me: they view their flists in their own style, so my viewing preference most likely won't affect their viewing, you know?

I've not tried that mouth-tray thing, but that is our next step. (And no beer at night for him - I think alcohol induces snoring in him, ferrealz.)

I am TERRIBLE about mopping, and I'm a primadonna, so I have my faults, believe me. :D

Awww, I can relate to the Exxtreme Snoring! Justifiable homicide, to be sure.

And O..M..G!!! I want some of that soup! It looks absolutely delicious.
Dec. 8th, 2008 04:23 pm (UTC)
THE SNORING. I'm not joking when I say that last Wed. I took both of my feet, placed them against his back, and SHOVED to wake him up. (On the floor, but still.) The snoring has gotten so bad lately! It's gotten to the point that I miss him traveling every week. :D

The soup I had at Manuels (Congress and 3rd, if you're ever in Austin) was the best soup I've had in YEARS. So delicious and delicate and smoky and flavorful and HOLY YUM.

I can't see your icon? Is that part of the layout or is that just me?

BTW I have so many recipes bookmarked from you, I can't keep up!
Dec. 8th, 2008 05:04 pm (UTC)
Really? It must be you - do you have your layout set to show friend's user icons? (Someone else commented on it, so I know someone else can see it...)

I'm glad I have recipes that you like, yay! I gotta say, this soup was so flippin' good. I really liked the pumpkin/bacon/blue cheese soup from a month ago, but this one??? Maybe one of the better soups in existence, no lie. :D

YOU ARE OFFICIALLY MY FAVORITE TODAY. (If someone finds me a CERN in Legos, though, please understand that trumps all. Heee.)

Also, best drink I've ever had in Austin? FLAMING DR. PEPPER (which contains no Dr. Pepper at all)

and yes, I have a Dr. Pepper icon!

Dec. 8th, 2008 05:24 pm (UTC)
Oh my god, I cannot drink flaming Dr. Peppers due to over indulgence (and toilet worship) back in my college days.

But good ol' Dr. Pepper? Yes, please!

Oh dear god. I am checking my LJ as part of winding down before bed, and lo! Cheetara hoves into view. The panting! The wine! Plus those are the worst cheetah ears I've ever seen. Is the vid an appeal to a mate who will tame her?

Ok, I'm going to sick up now.
Dec. 8th, 2008 07:52 pm (UTC)
Isn't that the craziest damn thing!? I like her polishing off the WHOLE GLASS of wine, too. Wow. (Um, please tell me you noticed the SEX HOLE.)

Hahahaha, I'm just being awful now, huh? ;D
Dec. 8th, 2008 07:11 pm (UTC)
I....the cheetah lady....there...just...are...no...words.

Except that her "baby" is very pretty. And gave her that classic cat face that says, "Typical batshit crazy human. Shut up and scratch me, woman."
Dec. 8th, 2008 07:51 pm (UTC)
Is she not MARVELOUSLY insane?!?! I love her showing the tacos and the Chinese foods. ANd how it appears that she wrote out a script for herself.

Does your husband have apnea? He should get that checked if so.
Dec. 8th, 2008 07:50 pm (UTC)
He doesn't, we've been that route. He um... has a chubby face that needs de-chubbying. *bites lip*

OoooOOooooh. Yes they would!! Those are fantastic, thank you for the link!

I got my Daddy a grind'n'brew with a thermal carafe last year and he's still waxing poetic about how it's the best gift EVER.

I had more... but my brain just broke.

LEGO! \o/

As for the snoring have you tried smacking him in the face? It wont cure it, but it'll probably make him pick up his blanky and go sleep on the couch.

You have my sympathy. I had an ex who snored so loudly at times that one night I woke up half befuddled and stuck my head out the window because I thought there was construction work going on outside, hahaha!

And then I killed him.
Dec. 8th, 2008 10:08 pm (UTC)
Yes, tell me more of this face smacking and murder as a cure for snoring? I'M ALL EARS. (Except for the parts that are hands wielding sharp instruments of torture)
Dec. 8th, 2008 09:22 pm (UTC)
Now that is some seriously awesome artists you pimped there.... o.O OMG! *stares*

Also, thank you for Tackorama. You can never have enough links to places like that. :-)
Dec. 8th, 2008 10:07 pm (UTC)
They both seriously make me happy. (The Polish artist, though, makes me sad, too, since he committed suicide a few years back. But his artwork is staggeringly beautiful. I love it.)
Dec. 10th, 2008 05:19 pm (UTC)
Awww! Thank you for the B-day wishes and for the nice words to go with. :-)

I've been hiding from reality for a little while. But now that I've hit the hair salon to hide the grey, I feel braver now.

I hope you've had a fantastic birthday!! I went back and read a bunch of your journal and remembered all over why I admire you so much. :D

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
