Title: Where There's Smoke [The EPILOGUE]
Rating: Fer Errbody (overall rated M: be old enough to not put me in jail, pls.)
Pairing: Kurt/Blaine, Wes and David friendship, mentions of former Finn/Rachel
Word Count: 2400/100,000
Warnings: Kurt finally hangs out at the fire station. Guess what happens? (Be prepared, my firefighter daughters, for intense situations)
Summary: Fireman AU. A few months down the road.
A/N: This wouldn't exist (no, truly, I almost deleted it) without the most amazing editor a person could ask for, flaming_muse. Any remaining errors fall squarely on her my shoulders. I AM SO OVERWHELMED BY YOUR RESPONSE. Unbelievably gratifying, thank you so much, each and every one of you.

It wasn’t usually this cold in New York City by November, but the weather apparently didn’t care to stick with the program and was running on a mid-January schedule.Collapse )

I would love to read a sequel! This story felt to short!
Mar. 16th, 2012 11:16 pm (UTC)
Ha! 90,000 is too short? :D

I don't think there will be a sequel, but every now and then I plan on writing a little one-shot/POV twist, that sort of thing.

Thank you for reading!

Hey, thank you for this! I come back and read my favorite parts every time I feel down.
I'm looking forward to that one-shot from blaine's point of view, you said you've been writing, and to anything you want to write about in the future...
I really love your writing :)

I'm a bit nervous at the moment - I've never left a comment anywhere - so: premiere! yayyy...!?
I've just wanted to tell you that I absolutely adore this fic - it's freaking perfect, honestly.
I've convinced a good friend to venture into the great world of fanfiction yesterday. We made the deal that I have one shot, that I'm going to recommend her one single fanfiction trying to convince her that there are some awesome storys out there.
I chose this very fic above to accomplish the mission for me. So all I have to do now is leaning back in my chair and letting you and your incredible talent do their work. Great. So... I'll go grab another bar of chocolate and watch...
Thank you so much for sharing this story with us!

I get your very first comment?!?! <3

AWWW, that is maybe the nicest thing I've ever heard. I hope you're feeling awesome, because I sure think you are. :) Thank YOU so much!

Okay. So.

I just sat here, and read through all of this, all at once. i can't tell you how long it took me because I only just -now- saw the clock and I have college in the morning but I don't even care. This was amazing. I flailed my hands, I clapped like a child and I even rolled around on my bed like Draco Malfoy at a few parts when I simply couldn't contain myself.

I kept wanting more, and more, and I didn't realize I was at the last chapter until it said epilogue and I almost cried. I seriously almost lost it because no, I read it all too fast and now it's over! I didn't get to cherish it the way I wanted to! And then I saw the file and now I have it on my Kindle, and when I take my trip to NYC in May to see Newsies on Broadway I will be reading this story over again from the very second I sit in my seat on my bus from Boston to the very second it stops in NYC.

I honestly hope that if you ever get the urge to revisit this verse that you do. You really, really should because I haven't had a story touch me like this one in a long, long time. Stories like this are rare, you know? But I'm rambling, and you probably think I'm crazy, so I'm going to stop and say thank you and goodnight, and never, ever, ever stop <3

Poor sleepy thing!! :( I hope you're able to get through the day in one piece.

And I'm so happy that the e-file is a good thing (I'm a huge fan of fanfiction on my Kindle, too!) so thank you so, so much for enjoying this, for telling me - and for thinking you want to read it over and over. That's so cool. *hugs*

And don't worry about me stopping - I'm about to post a new fic today, in fact. :) <3

Where to begin?
Finished "Where There's Smoke" last night but had to take a day to collect my thoughts before commenting.
That. was. amazing.
Your characters were flawless, even though this took place in an au, you stayed true to characters for everyone, but especially Kurt and Blaine. It highlighted the things I love most about them, and the reasons why there relationship is so wonderful, their openess, their honesty and their sincerity.
Also, you made it believable as a real relationship, becuase it took some time, and they had real life responsabilities. Sometimes "love stories" blot out real life and that makes them appealing, but it's too fairy tale for my liking most of the time, because, you know, I live in real life, I wanna see how it goes down here too.
I was literally breathless for most of the interactions between Blaine and Kurt, like I was feeling the same excitement that they were, and had to stop in between most chapters just to process everything. There were some days where the thought of getting to read more that evening just made me smile in the middle of my workday. :)

Some of my favorite lines were,

"'Idiots,' Blaine murmured, kissing the inside of Kurt's wrist."
and "You are my most favorite thing."

Have you read the blog "asktheanderbros" on tumblr? It's a Glee RP for Cooper and Blaine, and recently someone pointed out that Blaine shouldn't regret running from the bullies at his old school because it lead him to Dalton and then Kurt, and Blaine's response was that he would have still found him eventually no matter what, and WTS was like one of the examples of how that could have played out, because you included so many references to the the canon Klaine storyline.

Anyway, now I'm just rambling. You have a real gift as a writer, and I'm looking forward to reading more and more of what you have written. And thank you for making it available in PDF, it is most certainly on my Kindle. And thank you for creating this beautiful world for us to visit.

Re: Where to begin?
Oh, I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed it!! And that the characters felt true, well, that's icing on the cake (For me it's the cake, but that's because I want them to be Kurt and Blaine not Barbie dolls that just happen to look like them. :D)

I will say that I'm a spoiler-free fan, so (someone else spoiled the name/relationship of Matt Bomer's guest role) I still try to avoid anything that involves what's going to come, so no, I've not looked at that tumblr - thank you for the rec though! After 3.15 airs I might be more inclined.

Thank you so, so much for not only reading, but for taking the time to comment. I really appreciate that (and your very sweet compliments.) Cheers! <3

I feel like I'm late to the party, but oh well better late than never right?

I absolutely LOVED this story. I read it all today. Couldn't even stop to comment on each chapter so enthralled I was. Stopped only for food and bathroom breaks (I'm only human after all).

It's amazing how you wrote Kurt and Blaine and how you used small canon dialogues for them. And it's just a great idea for a fic. I have an unconditional love for AU stories and this one is probably one of the best I've ever read. Probably the best Klaine AU I've ever read.

I'm terrible with words so I would just like to say THANK YOU for sharing this with us. You're an amazing writer.

I can't believe you read the whole thing today - I hope it was a comfy chair! :)

Thank you, truly, for your sweet compliment. I really appreciate it. <3

I'm joining the masses and commenting on this fic because it's a masterpiece.

I stumbled on this after trolling through tumblr. (You're fic comes highly recommended!)

Good lord, this is great. I love how much detail you put into your little world.

I'll just start with your characters.

Blaine... God I love how you did him. You made him completely smitten with Kurt-like in canono-but also so broken from his father. The relationship he had with his other firemen was also great. I loved the natural leader you made him-because I hated how season three just dropped that part of him. He had a wonderful, quiet strength that I so admire from the character on the show, and his constant support to everyone he loved or looked at as a friend.

Kurt, I fell in love with him the minute he spoke. You had his point of view so perfect. He was funny as hell, spunky, unsure, and a diva to the end. I loved how he knew cars but loved to sew. I agree with Blaine, he's my most favorite thing.

Everyone else was so spot onto, Rachel, Finn, Burt, Carole, David, Wes, everyone.

Their interaction was perfect as well. the relationship with Rachel and Kurt, the way they were so comfortable living with each other. you captured their relationship really well. Klaine was beautiful, romantic, and so wonderful. I LOVED them. I will reread this more times than I would like to admit. It was pricless and so well written.

Re: Wowsers!
Well, if this isn't the best wake up comment, I don't know what is!

I'm unbelievably happy to hear that you found their characterizations accurate. That's truly my #1 goal. (I mean, if it's not going to be Blaine and Kurt from Glee I'm writing, why call them Blaine and Kurt?)

(I get chatty.) I had to think about who Blaine was before he met Kurt: dapper, friendly, puts on a controlled face with his friends, who he's close with. He never had a Kurt that would let him fall apart a little (and still love him.) Which is why he falls so hard for him here.

I love love LOVE Rachel and Kurt as BFFs and have the best time writing them, so that's gratifying to know, as well!

Thank you so much. You just started off my day in the best way. <3

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
