Links, a rec, and a massive eye-roll/rant

First, Hey, Don't Judge Me is cooking today (with lots coming later today, too.)
Game of Thrones! Hope you like your incest. And baby killing.
Dexter! The rewatch continues with the beginning of Season 2, eps. 1 - 3.
Touch! The new Keifer show that is steadily picking up steam.
Later today: Mad Men! Bomb Girls! And THE RETURN OF THE BORGIAS (but debuting on HDJM!) Show my girls some love, if you would be so kind. They're working for praise, so how about you give them a raise? :)

FIC REC: one of those "Please drop what you are doing, read this, leave encouraging feedback, and marvel that this is in the world" kind of fics.

Sweet! A Love Story Told In Sugar by ohquixotica (I believe there are two other authors contributing as well?

WHY: Did you love Pushing Daisies? Do you love surreal romance and beautiful words and maybe a little Like Water For Chocolate? Because this story is all of that and more. I very rarely get emotionally moved by a lot of fanfic. I'm a jerk, I suppose. I choked up, clutched my heart, squealed with happiness, and felt everything right along with the characters. So funny, so sweet, so achy in places I could barely catch my breath. Everything I love in a story and all I didn't know I needed. PLEASE. Track this one. It's a WiP.

And those in Glee fandom? THAT IS HOW YOU WRITE 3rd PERSON OMNISCIENT. Know your POVs, it seems to be a problem. Do I sound snippy? I'll tell you why. But before I cut, PLEASE PLEASE READ.TRACK, BOOKMARK SWEET. You'll thank me later, I guarantee.

In which I go all Santana-like on entitlement, manners, why people share fanfic in the first place, and mother frakkin' TONE.Collapse )

And here come the anonymous "Stoney's a bitch" comments, I'm sure. Sorry for having opinions in my own journal. *

*no, I'm not. And one last time: CATCHING TYPOS is one thing. Talking down to me is another. Guess which one I'm cool with? (And christ, the story is 148,000 words. There's bound to be an error. Find me a printed book without a single error, would you?)

People can be douche canoes
As a voracious consumer and non-producer of Klaine fic, I'm extremely grateful for what people produce and share for free. Some of it's not up my alley, some of it isn't even that good, but I'm still appreciative of all of it.

I try to drop a compliment or thank you to the author of everything I read. Yeah, my comments are usually pretty short and never insightful, but hey it's the polite and the right thing to do.

*sigh* I'm sorry you're getting this stupid hate. Please don't waste too much energy being upset about it, the douche canoes are just not worth it. And you, you are FUCKING amazing and your writing (both your stories and your snarky comments) just make my day. THANK YOU!

And they like their paddles up their fudge holes
I am like you: I consume what is available. I may not like it, but with some folks you can see how happy they are (plus their readers) so why the fuck would I piss on that? No one asked for a golden shower, you feel me?

I am very happily over it - I'm like Blaine with his punching bag - worked it out, and ready to move on and do some fancy spins. AND HEY YOU MADE MY DAY SO IT LOOKS LIKE WE ARE EVEN! <3

All the assholes in the universe come to play in your yard. Is it the awesome drinks? The amazing pool? The Master Gardener's oasis in the hot Texas sun?

I'd like to ask the assholes of the universe to go to their own yard, be a dick to the people they actually have to look at in real life and leave you the fuck alone.

::Hugs::

Well, you're a treat and a delight and I suspect not fully human and possibly elfish, so OF COURSE you are right. ;D

I wonder if it's a carryover from writing workshops where participants pick apart each other's stuff. I have no idea. I'm sorry it's happening to you. (((((hugs you))))) I'm on the edge of my seat because I'm anticipating the conflict that is sure to come. Eeeeeee!

One of my favorite typos was where an author had written "steaks of come" instead of "streaks of come," and I howled so hard I cried. Then I PM'd them. I just can't bring myself to leave corrections in comments, even for typos. Comments are for lurrrrrrve!

If I didn't have the most hard-nosed (and right) beta in existence, I wouldn't be so opposed to the workshop mindset. Well, I probably would, because I don't post things until they've been thoroughly vetted, but still. This is a finished story, so I'm not making changes to past chapters, you know?

STEAKS OF COME. That is awesome. That's up with "he seated himself in her audience," that is. :D I don't mind concrit, typically. I have issues with the tone of looking down their nose at my story for not being factual, when I have freaking flaming_muse as an editor. The woman it seriously the most educated person I know, and spent a decade in academia doing - hey-o - editorial work.

I have a feeling, however, that this post has served its purpose. It's okay to help writers. It is! It's not okay to denigrate and talk in an ugly manner.

*still lol'ing and steaks of come.* Er, I'll take mine well done, I believe. ;)

I hate evil, rude, bitchy people. Though, being a bit of a bitch myself, I feel I am entitled to hate them.

Honestly, I'm enjoying the fic so much that I don't even notice the little errors like "teh" instead of "the". And, unless they're just being bitchy for bitchiness's sake, no one else should either.

I am rather grateful, and extremely appreciative, of you sharing these wonderful worlds of awesome with us.

And anyone that needs a punch in the nose? You just point them in my direction. I have LOADS AND LOADS of stress to work out, and violence is, contrary to popular opinion, sometimes the answer.

Now, for a SUGGESTION for your next project. It could, possibly, include Blaine + police officer's uniform + stripper pole. I blame this completely on a (wonderful) dream I had last night.

AHAHAHAHAHA. One day I'm going to be in 'Bama, and we're going to find the one gay bar that hiding out in the country, and I'm going to be the most awesome FruitFly you ever went drinking with. (It's the gay version of a wingman.)

Sometimes violence IS the answer, you're right. Like how I'm going to go apeshit on a plate of eggs and bacon in a mo'. :D

AHAHAHA. Blaine, policeman, stripped pole. CHECK. ;D

I send you bittersweet chocolates ...
because you do not deserve that kind of treatment. In fact, no creator deserves to have their vision questioned in a rude and irresponsible manner. I read a boatload of fan fiction (no lie, I think housework is highly overrated) and I'm a firm believer in my author's perogative. If they choose to take Kurt to the moon, then I'm happy to find out Marc Jacobs has a stunning collection of space suits to wear on the dark side. It's enough that someone is trying, and then actually putting a piece of their soul out in public. The least I can do is appreciate their unique take on characters I love.

Which isn't to say I think all of the stories I've read are great, or even good, sometimes. But I feel that at the very least I can refrain from being overtly negative, these authors are certainly doing more than I. Critics who can't comment with heart or appreciation for the sheer effort involved in crafting a storyline should make like Thumper and "just say nuth'in a'tall".

And, sorry I haven't expressed my heartfelt love for this story yet. I just raced through the first eight chapters (your Irish love child is absolutely brilliant, Blaine needed a fabulous hag) and haven't had time. But I couldn't hold myself back from supporting your completely valid point of view, and offer my opinion. And chocolate. And a glass
of wine. Just to fortify you in your trials. Keep doing what you're doing, there are hundreds of us out there who love your visions.

And, I didn't see any typos! But please excuse mine, this was typed on iPod, and, due to formatting, proofing is tough (andauto correct is brutal -- funny, sometimes, but brutal.)

Re: I send you bittersweet chocolates ...
I can only imagine how grateful other artists/writers/etc are to have thoughtful readers like yourself. I certainly don't expect everyone to leave me praise (boy, did I learn YEARS ago that most people don't comment - it's just how things are) and I'm incredibly happy when I get even the simplest, "Yay!" I would just rather people didn't feel the need to laser beam in on one thing they DIDN'T like and ignore the other 8000 words. If it was such a bad thing, why did they stick around for the rest, you know?

But anyway. Thank you veyr much, and please know that I don't expect comments on every chapter (or at all.) I love when I get them, but I don't EXPECT them. I am really happy to know that Moira gets a thumbs up - I'm rather fond of her, myself. :D

THANK YOU. And I will share that chocolate and wine with you. :)

No, your FACE is a fantastic writer! Your mom is. (I am terrible about accepting compliments. Thank you very much.)

Is it shitty of me to agree with you on the reason people behave this way with other writers? I think there's a lot of truth in it.

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
