In case your day is dragging and you'd like some distractions, I've got a few photos of my b-day party under the cut. I got a piñata! Hee.

[Oh, and for anyone that may have worried about me having Something Dreadful in my Sinuses, I do. It's a cold. =/]

I'm pretty low key - and I think I've had...one birthday party since I was 18? Either I suck, or my friends suck, I don't know. :DCollapse )

As one does when they become old and boring (hooray!) I've been thinking on all the things I wanted to accomplish by the time I hit 40 - and how arbitrary that birthday is. It's kind of ridiculous to set up expectations for having ticked off x number of items on your Life Goals by a certain age. Don't get me wrong: I think it's important to set goals. I just don't think people need to beat themselves up for not achieving them by a specific time stamp. (I say this so I don't have a sad, of course.)

I may not have won an Emmy/Tony/Oscar or walked the Great Wall, but I've done a hell of a lot of other unplanned things that are pretty sweet.Collapse )

Wishing you a super-super late happy birthday. (Hey, it's like you were a 30-something for a whole extra week!)

Having crossed that 40 milestone myself earlier this year, I can concur that a list like this is way more interesting and true than all the crap we dreamed about when we were 20. And besides, isn't 40 like the new 10? :)

You've done some truly amazing things, not the least of which is being an amazing human being for the other human beings in your life. Though I think scaling a cliff upside down is batshit crazy.

(Agreed! I've not officially turned 40 until I've heard from everyone, I've now decided. I'll just switch my phone to silent and make sure I stay 39 for ever. Hee.)

YAY 40s! I'm super happy to turn this age, I must say - and I'm sharing that year with some pretty terrific women, I'm finding! <3 I actually have a letter that I wrote to myself when I was...12? 13? that I need to dig up. That should be good for a few laughs.

My life has DEFINITELY not turned out the way I imagined it, and that's a great thing. I honestly wouldn't change any decision I've made (even the really really bad choices that put me in danger) because it made me who I am now.

And...I like me. I think that's a good thing to like yourself.

HEE! I should amend that statement to read that I RAPPELLED "Aussie style" - I didn't climb up. That would be impossible (for me, at least.) OH, and I didn't add bungee jumping on my lunch shift at work! Then again, you start jumping out of planes and bungee jumping seems very silly by comparison. :D

*hugs the stuffing out of you*

And...I like me.

Ah, the secret to a happy life, right there. (Well, that an abundant adult products. I mean, is there anything Aspercreme can't do? Oh wait, there probably is. Nevermind.)

You're inspiring. Not brown-nosing, have been reading you for about a year now and I truly mean it. You're my go-to when I'm feeling sad or discouraged. I wish you a very happy birthday and all good things in the years to come!

Hello! Oh, I don't consider that brown-nosing, that's mood-uplifting! Big difference. :D

I am honored to contribute to you having a laugh or smile when needed! That's really the #1 goal I have in keeping this LJ.

Thank you so very much, and feel free to pop in and chat - I like that! <3

I love your pinata, and your treat plate, and OMG, your list. YOUR LIST. You rock. You've also inspired me to make a "have-done" list for myself when I start feeling like crap for my real or imagined failings.

Hee - the piñata is for a story I wrote that I'm turning into a webseries. It was AWESOME.

I highly recommend making a list of things you want to accomplish in your life! It does just that - makes you realize how many amazing experiences you've had, regardless of intent. <3

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
