calling all nerds...

I am incapable of sitting down, reading and learning how to code my flipping LJ by myself. I. Just. Can't. BUT. I have made a banner, have a background/foreground color selected, and have a spiffy Mood Theme I made ready to go.

Also, can anyone offer advice for a website location? Say I have an image with the font I like (because I tried with SBC Yahoo, and they won't let me use the font I want) embedded with pictures, and I want a hotlink for email. That's all I need. One page. Suggestions for locales? Places to read up on making an Internet Page For Dummies that looks the way I want it?

Thank you in advance. And as I totally glossed over Sandra Dee's death this weekend, I feel it apporpriate to honor her memory in the only way I can... Lubed! The Musical, featuring the hit song, Look at Me, I'm Spike That's Wee!

I wish I could help, but it took me like 2 days to simply change the colours on my LJ.

And Sandra Dee died?! This weekend?! Damn...I had no idea, and that sucks. Your memorial of her will beat any one Hollywood could do to a bloody, stinking pulp *g*

Man, I love that Sock-er-Spike picture in the icon *g*

I can't help you with the banner but if you have AIM I can hold your hand through the mood theme tonight and proally get you sorted with the colors too.

Cool. If I can't figure this raslle-frassin' stuff out, I'll pester yo instead! Wheeee!! ;-)

raslle-frassin - hee! Christmas Story!

Mood themes are tedious but really easy to do, promise. I'll be around AIM anytime after 6ish EST tonight. Aim = smashsc1

You don't need any weird code stuff to do a mood theme.

Did Olivia Newton John die? Buh?

No, Sandra Dee. Who "Sandy" from Grease was modeled on. SHe was the original Gidgit, and was Tammy in the 60s virgin films. Married Bobby Darin... I loved Gidgit when I was little.

Somehow those movies were always on on my sick days. I'd have a tall glass of Sprite (my mom was not a good mom) and a blanket and the toob.

Good times. Gimmie a Peter Pan collar and a high ponytail and I'll be bouncing along, remembering the glory days.

Well, I was named after Marlo Thomas, so there's some kinda perky 60s icon living inside me, somewhere. DEEP DOWN.

This helped me with layout, but I still had a hell of a time. If you're stuck on a specific bit, I might be able to help out.
Feb. 23rd, 2005 01:06 pm (UTC)
AWESOME. I'll see what i can make of it. For some reason, I keep finding all of the communities that DON'T make it simple. Huh? I's smaht like that.

THANK YOU!! Although, after searching around her site, it might be a bit too advanced for me. I think I have a lazy brain, too.

I need to get a website to host my images (figured that one out from your rec) so once I get that going, I'll work on the other bits.

but but but

I don't like to be bossy. And I need to put the mood theme and banner on a website, right?

Let me figure the pic hosting thing, and I may be pounding on your door (figuratively speaking) for some help.

Ay, chica. Tu eres muy buena y bonita. Te amo. :-)

Yo soy triste.
Porque mi zapatos es muy pequena.

I'm tapped. Hee!!

I can use photobucket for banners? COOL! WHat about mood themes, though? I am such a moron. Each picture would have to be on it's own page?

*bangs head slowly on desk for lazy brain frustration*

If all you want to do is link an image to your journal, you might as well stick with your SBC page since all you need to do is have an image file in a directory to link to it. However, if you feel the need for a full-fledged webhosting service, with email, drop in scripts, etc., and where you can put up any page you like, I'd recommend the webhost that I went with at webhostingbuzz.com. You can get a complete website for as little as $3.00 a month. Also, this site is a good place to start for basic HTML, though I think you probably already know the basics. And for stylesheets, here is a good start. I haven't yet took the time to learn the S2 layer code, mainly because I cannot use it anywhere else but Livejournal, so this is really all the help I can provide without actually looking at code.

Now that I need a website to host images, I'll check out your prospects. I can search on the web for hosting sites, but I'd rather hear from someone I trust (o_O) before plunking down money.

I canned the SBC site because I couldn't have images, couldn't have any personal fonts (outside of the 4 they provided) and they charged me 8 bucks a month for squat. I know some basic HTML, but I don't know how to make the groovy and shnazzy LJs like I see.

Thanks for the links. (Did the house ever come through, BTW?)

I'm currently ironing out an issue with something on my credit report. More specifically, an ex who I had co-signed on an auto loan for while we were still together, and for who is now two months behind on her payments. She is supposedly having her father become the co-signer (lucky him) so that I won't be responsible for payment. Otherwise, I should be able to get the loan since despite the one blemish on my credit record, I still have an excellent credit rating.

I am no help on LJ, but my older brother, who is a chemical engineer, was asking for my opinion on the Harvard prez on women in science. He says some of his (male) colleagues are up in arms about it b/c they have been making an effort to recruit females and it only hurts the situation. i told him i didn't really know enough, but I thought I remembered you'd posted something on the subject?

Re: random
I love that you have a Steve Dallas icon. Misogynistic closeted bastard. Ha ha ha!

I did post an entry on it, back in mid-Jan, I believe. He's being reprimanded and other universities are taking Harvard to task. My theory is he'll be gone to "greener pastures" by the end of the term.

I think the time for affirmative action may be past, and that folks should be hired for their merit. However: since the playing field is still not level, I see how it is still useful.

What is the issue with his colleagues? They are mad about hiring women? They are mad about the Pres? Unclear... Quite possibly I'm exhausted and need to hit the sheets.

Re: random
honest, I'm not really sure :). I know they were mad about what the guy said, and it had something to do with their hiring processes. I'm tired too.

oh, here goes. Aaron said:
I was also wondering this morning what you think of the whole Larry Summers
thing (pres. of Harvard). I keep changing my opinion (flip-flopping)
whether this was a real controversy or not. I had lunch on Sunday with a
chemical engineering chair who was pretty pissed about the whole thing
because they can't find enough female professors as is.

Truthfully, i was just hoping to pretend I know what he's talking about.
He is an NPR addict and gives me credit for being more up on current events than I am.

Hey missy! I figured out how to put a banner up using this tutorial. Maybe this tutorialwill help too...it's for Component though. You can also use www.imageshack.us for hosting pictures. I had some help with my mood theme though. Was hard. Has anyone offered to be your bitch yet? I'd do it, but I'm bad with this stuff. I had THREE lj friends help me. Actually, I know at least one of them if not all three wouldn't mind giving you a hand with it. By giving you a hand means taking over your journal and doing it all for you if you wanted, but I'm not sure you'd want to give over your password and stuff. If you do...I could hook you up! Also, you're the brainy type, so you'd probably what to learn how to do it yourself. I admire you enterprising brainy types. I's lazy. Also, not sure what you mean by website location. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
Feb. 23rd, 2005 09:02 pm (UTC)
I remembered you said that before. I have a friend who said she could do it for me, but I feel like a dork making people do my BIDDING. I's lazy too.

you have some good links. I need to go sleepy, but I will check it out more thoroughly tomorrow. (TAKS testing was today, was a cheerleader for the third graders all day, worked in the garden, am pooped.)

And how frickin' awesome was all the Sun/Jin backstory? It had me CRYING. Jin is so handsome and strong and tragic, and Sun is so beautiful and sad. Ahhhh ha ha ha... *bawls*
Feb. 24th, 2005 06:19 pm (UTC)
I loved the episode. It was heartbreakingly good. Also, I wish I had Sun's abs. Wow.

Hey! Didja see my comment to you at my journal? Also, didja see the pic I had of Mr. Kako? He's handsome and strong, but not so tragic...'cept he's married to me. Heee!

Sue and I use ivillage to host our pics. https://subscriber.ivillage.com/funnels/8?vrt=iv&msg=1&dd=

It's free and works fine for what we have.

You have more than me, I was excited that I managed to get icons worked out. Yay, I'm special!

Are You Actually

Reading this? I'm just curious. Because that's really detail-oriented of you. Feel free to stop reading. But you can see that there's more here, so are you going to keep reading? Really? That's pretty dedicated. I'm impressed. No, really. I'm not being sarcastic, why do you get like that? See, this is the problem I have with your mother - yes. YES. I'm going there. It's time we put all of our cards on the table.

I love you, why are you doing this? After all we've been through? You don't have to be like this. You know, still reading. You could be baking a pie. And then sharing it with me.
